Chairman, Board of Directors: James Jordan
James F. Jordan serves as the Chief Investment Officer of the Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse (PLSG), a public-private economic and venture fund. He is also a Distinguished Service Professor of Health Care & Biotechnology Management and Senior Director of Health Care and Biotechnology Programs at Carnegie Mellon University’s Heinz College.
A recognized expert in market development and guiding the successful formation of entrepreneurial startup businesses, Mr. Jordan recently authored Innovation, Commercialization, and Start-Ups in Life Sciences, published by Taylor & Francis Group.
Prior to joining the PLSG, Mr. Jordan was Senior Vice President of a $3.0 billion division of McKesson Corporation. As an accomplished Fortune 20-level executive, Mr. Jordan has also served with such companies as C.R. Bard, Boston Scientific, and Johnson & Johnson.
Mr. Jordan has leveraged his experience in several startup ventures and is active on multiple boards of directors. Through the PLSG, he has applied his 25 years of experience in industry, consulting, and academia to work with over 420 life science startup companies, with direct investment in 76, which have collectively raised over $626 million in investment capital.
President & CEO: Samuel F. Straface, Ph.D.
Dr. Straface joined Medrobotics in March, 2009 after serving as an Executive-in-Residence at The Pittsburgh Life Sciences Greenhouse, an incubator in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, where he led a portfolio of life science companies with business formation, development and financing. Previously, he was the founding President and Chief Executive Officer of Triton BioSystems, Inc. (now Aduro BioTech, Inc.), a targeted nanobiotechnology company developing low side-effect highly selective therapies for advanced cancers such as head and neck, breast and prostate cancers. Dr. Straface has 25 years’ experience in global sales, marketing, business development, venture financing and general management at several companies, including Boston Scientific Corporation, and Johnson & Johnson. He began his career as a Scientific Officer, researching the neurophysiology of the retina and methods for early diagnosis of neuronal disease. He holds a Ph.D. in neurophysiology from the University of Western Australia.
Richard C. Petersen Jr
Mr. Petersen is currently the President of Petersen Jr. Enterprises. He spent 32 years with GM/DELPHI before he retired as the General Director of Corporate Planning for Delphi-Steering. He has been recognized in Who’s Who for U.S. Executives and as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America. He is currently the Executive Director for the Petersen Foundation and Chairman of the Board for Neograft Technologies, Inc. and WeSpeke. He is also a Director for Medrobotics, ClearCount, Rinovum, and BB Holdings. He is also, an Executive Advisor for Therm Med LLC, SanPath LLC, KC Energy LLC, Therm Cardiac Therapies LLC and CCK Targeting LLC. He is the Financial Advisor for Blessed Sacrament Church.
Thomas M. Dugan, MD
Dr. Dugan is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and a retired cardiologist. He trained at Duke University, Georgetown University and the University of Pittsburgh. He is a former president of a large cardiology and cardiovascular surgery private practice group. He has served on the Board of Trustees of St. Vincent Health Center and the Board of Directors of Alliance Health Network HMO.
Robert Beck has been the Senior Member of Beck, Mack & Oliver LLC (the “Firm”) since 1998 and has over 25 years of investment management experience. He joined the Firm in 1986 and became a partner in 1988. Prior to his association with the Firm, Mr. Beck worked at Standish, Ayer & Wood from 1982 to 1985 and at IBM from 1977 to 1980. He received a B.A. degree from Wesleyan University in 1977 and an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College in 1982.
Christopher S. Petersen
Mr. Christopher Petersen is currently the Assistant Corporate Controller for ThyssenKrupp with $2B in global sales and more than $3B in total assets. He has also been a Senior Auditor for KPMG LLP. Mr. Petersen currently serves on the Board of Directors for three additional companies. He received a B.A. in Accounting from The Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University with Honors and his Masters of Science in Accounting from the same university.
Brad R. Petersen
Dr. Brad Petersen is currently a Pharmacy Operations Manager at OhioHealth’s Grant Medical Center. Grant Medical Center is a Level I Trauma Center that performs over 20,000 surgeries annually. Dr. Petersen currently supervises pharmacy services for the surgery suite as well as outpatient infusion center. He serves on the Board of Directors for two additional companies. Dr. Petersen received his Doctor of Pharmacy from Ohio Northern University and his Masters in Health System Pharmacy Administration from The Ohio State University.
